New Nonprofit Organization Formed: Friends of Canyon Camp

Updated: Jan 14, 2022

In December, the Friends of Canyon Camp (FOCC) was formally launched. This new Nonprofit Organization was created to come alongside the needs of Canyon Camp and provide resources for capital and program needs to the council that owns the property.

The mission of the Friends of Canyon Camp is to protect and support youth enrichment at Canyon Camp. We will continue this work through collaboration of other nonprofits, including the Blackhawk Area Council, as it is accepted and for the betterment of Scouting in our region. The FOCC will coordinate service days, build our social network, and manage the Stewards of Canyon Camp annual giving fund for program and capital needs. The Stewards initiative secured more than $30,000 in its inaugural year and is on track to raise an additional $50,000 for immediate use projects in its second year. These efforts will come alongside the many decades of service by organizations like the Monroe Kiwanis Club as well as the hundreds of individuals who have engaged philanthropically since origin of camp through a gift of the Koenig family of Freeport

As our organization launches, we will continue to build relationships. At this time, we are asking that you save the date for May 7 for the annual Monroe Kiwanis Work Day- plan to come to camp, reconnect with old friends, and give back to Camp through service! Concurrently, consider joining your peers in making a financial contribution to the Friends of Canyon Camp. Thank you to those of you who have already given. Many gifts have been made at what we consider a "Stewards" level. Individuals who give $250 ($21/month; $100 if in college) annually receive an exclusive Canyon Camp patch and year rocker for display. Supporters who give $1,000 or more meet each spring to identify how funds will be appropriated . You can learn more and make your gift today here. Gifts of any amount are appreciated and put to work immediately.

Keep an eye out for updates on our website at www.canyoncampbsa.org/give or through our monthly e-newsletter. We will share additional updates, cast a broader vision, share successes (like our first major gift of $12,000 through a qualified IRA distribution), and more. To learn more about the Friends of Canyon Camp, you can ask questions, volunteer, or recommend new connections by clicking here or by sending an email to program.canyon@gmail.com. Thank you for being a Friend of Canyon Camp.
